Basketball Recap: Alta Loma Sets Scoring Season-High Against Upland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alta Loma). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 73-28 victory over the Upland Highlanders/Scots. The Braves pushed the score to 62-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Highlanders/Scots had no chance of recovering from.

Leading Alta Loma to victory were Britain Hall and Mia Valle. Hall went 11 for 15 en route to 30 points and five steals, while Valle posted 22 points and five assists. Alta Loma is undefeated when Hall posts 20 or more points, but 7-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Geary, who put up three points and five steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Alta Loma was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Upland only racked up three assists.

Upland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ariyana Velasquez, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Taniyah Purnell was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Alta Loma's record now sits at 11-9. As for Upland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.

Alta Loma didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-46 win against Los Altos on the 3rd. As for Upland, they have also already played their next game, a 60-10 victory against St. Lucy's on the 5th.
