The Tolman Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Ponaganset Chieftains at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Tolman is ranked 24th, while Ponaganset is ranked 20th).
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Tolman can now relate to. They and Johnston were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but Tolman suffered an agonizing 35-34 defeat. Tolman's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Tolman's loss came about despite a quality game from Darren Valentin, who rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Valentin's longest rush was for an incredible 77 yards.
Even if they lost, Tolman's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Joseph Pimentel was especially locked on to Johnston's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Ponaganset unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. The match between Ponaganset and Lincoln wasn't particularly close, with Ponaganset falling 46-28. Ponaganset has not had much luck with Lincoln recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The losing side was boosted by Jason Pincince, who rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 21 yards and a touchdown on only two passes.
The losses dropped Tolman to 5-4 and Ponaganset to 6-3.
