Softball Recap: Headland Has No Trouble Against Ashford

Headland hadn't done well against Ashford recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Yellowjackets. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Shaylee Greathouse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Mally Arnold looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Harlee Raley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Allsup was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Headland and bumps their season record up to 16-13. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 8-11 Ashford and 14-18 Eufaula. As for Ashford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Headland will square off against Eufaula at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ashford, they will take on Wicksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
