The Central Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Fairmont Heights Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Central was beaten by Douglass 85-49. Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.
Meanwhile, Fairmont Heights had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past College Park Academy 72-42 on the road. Given Fairmont Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while College Park Academy is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fairmont Heights' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amari Brice-Johnson, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Brice-Johnson has scored at least 25% of Fairmont Heights' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion McQueen, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Central now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Fairmont Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Central might still be hurting after the 70-45 defeat they got from Fairmont Heights in their previous meeting back in February. Can Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
