The Big Valley Cardinals suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a tough 69-45 defeat at the hands of Hayfork. Big Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hayfork apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Big Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Kade Lemke and Josue Barba. Lemke scored 14 points along with five rebounds, while Barba dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barba has scored all season.
Hayfork found their leader in underclassman Levi Cavalli, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 16 rebounds. Cavalli also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Troy Hair was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and six assists.
Big Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hayfork, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Valley will take on Happy Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Happy Camp will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. As for Hayfork, they will head out on the road to face off against Dunsmuir at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunsmuir has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
