The Welch Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Covington-Douglas Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Welch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Saturday.
Welch won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They were dealt a 55-21 loss at the hands of Wesleyan Christian. Welch has struggled against Wesleyan Christian recently, as their contest on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Welch had strong showings from Deighton Bellew, who scored four points along with three steals, and Joseph Clinton, who scored no points.
Meanwhile, Covington-Douglas unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Timberlake by a score of 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Covington-Douglas has suffered since December 14, 2023.
Welch has not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Covington-Douglas, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.
