The Rincon/University Rangers will be playing at home against the Empire Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rincon/University has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Empire will arrive with four straight victories.
Last Friday, Rincon/University took a serious blow against Douglas, falling 50-7. Rincon/University was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-0.
Meanwhile, Empire beat Rio Rico 21-14 on Friday. 21 seems to be a good number for Empire as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Empire's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brycen Duncan led the charge by throwing for 171 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Kienan Parker was another key contributor, rushing for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Rincon/University's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 2-8 Amphitheater and 3-7 Flowing Wells (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 41% over those games). As for Empire, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Rincon/University might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Empire when the teams last played back in September of 2022. Will Rincon/University have more luck at home instead of on the road?
