Huntingtown found their leader in underclassman Eva Powell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Powell has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sofia Hoetzlein-sirman, who scored eight points along with seven assists and four steals.
Despite the loss, McDonough still got an impressive performance from Cailyn Samuel, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Mikayla King was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
McDonough struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Huntingtown racked up 13 assists.
Huntingtown pushed their record up to 11-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for McDonough, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Huntingtown will head out on the road to face off against Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Great Mills is ranked 123rd, while Huntingtown is ranked 116th). As for McDonough, they will be playing at home against La Plata at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. La Plata is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
