The Port Clinton Redskins will face off against the Waite Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Port Clinton has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Port Clinton after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Huron, falling 15-3. The Redskins haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Jae Mazur made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waite). Everything went their way against Ottawa Hills on Friday as they made off with a 30-21 win. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Green Bears: they've now won three in a row.
Aaniyah Aldana was a standout: she scored six runs and stole a base while getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabby Fouty, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances.
Waite was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .489. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The win got Waite back to even at 2-2. As for Port Clinton, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Port Clinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Waite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Port Clinton's way against Waite in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Port Clinton made off with an 18-5 victory. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
