Sunlake is 7-2 against Zephyrhills since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Sunlake Seahawks will head out on the road to face off against the Zephyrhills Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Sunlake is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
Even though Sunlake has not done well against Wiregrass Ranch recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Sunlake had just enough and edged Wiregrass Ranch out 47-44. Given Sunlake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Wiregrass Ranch is ranked 341st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunlake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaycie Hyde led the charge by scoring 8 points along with 13 steals and 8 rebounds. Hyde is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Alia Dobrzanski was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 8 steals.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Zephyrhills at home against Pasco on Thursday as the team secured a 52-4 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Zephyrhills.
The opposite results left the teams with opposite records: Sunlake's win pushed their record up to 3-0, while Wiregrass Ranch's loss dropped theirs down to 0-3.
Everything came up roses for Sunlake against Zephyrhills when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 54-26 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunlake since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
