Newton can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They blew past Casey-Westfield 47-25. Given Newton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Warriors are ranked 384th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 45-41 win over Martinsville on Thursday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine to victory, but perhaps none more so than Genna Kidwell, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Kidwell hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Tipton, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Newton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, their victory bumped their record up to 8-19.
Everything came up roses for Newton against the when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 50-22 victory. With Newton ahead 36-10 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
