Wilmington hasn't had much luck against Streator recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Wilmington will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Streator's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Wilmington hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Wildcats blew past Shepard 6-0 on Saturday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Brysen Meents, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dierks Geiss, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Streator suffered their biggest loss since April 27, 2024 on Friday. They lost 9-3 to Metamora. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Redbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Streator saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Shinkey, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Another was Keegan Angelico, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Wilmington pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Streator, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.
Wilmington's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Streator, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wilmington continue to outrun the ball?
Wilmington took their win against Streator when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
