Delta River recap Oct. 16, 2012
Ponderosa moved up to 339 from 456 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Delta River. The Bruins climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Pleasant Grove 35-7.
Folsom extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Jesuit, 56-35. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Bulldogs.
Folsom's dynamic duo of Jake Browning and Lucas Owan proved tough for the Marauders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Browning threw for 368 yards and six touchdowns and Owan had 98 yards receiving. Rodney Ellison helped Folsom's passing attack out by catching nine balls for 94 yards.
Isaiah Saunders was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 130 yards on 29 carries as the Eagles bested Jesuit. Esley Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 46 yards on the ground.
The Bulldogs' Browning and Troy Knox have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Delta River in both passing and receiving yards. Browning has thrown for 2731 yards this season, while Knox, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 49 catches for 609 yards. Pleasant Grove's Saunders leads the league in rushing yards with 902.
Saunders of the Joe Cattolico's team is only 98 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oak Ridge takes on Ponderosa. At the moment, the Trojans are in second, while Jason Tenner's team is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Oak Ridge takes on the Bruins. Eric Cavaliere's team has allowed 104 points this season, while Ponderosa has given up 81. The Trojans allowed 7 points last week as they topped Sheldon.
Oak Ridge suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after beating the Huskies. The Trojans had been ranked 24th, but fell to 51.
