Given Northwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Portola is ranked 661st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Zaid Yunis, who scored 30 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ryan Abaye, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Northwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Portola, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.
Northwood will head out on the road to square off against Sage Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portola, they will be playing at home against Laguna Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Laguna Hills is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
