The team relied heavily on Nate Peck, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Wayne Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Miles Hamm was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Liberty Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over New Life Christian Academy on Thursday, taking the game 9-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Heat.
Braedon Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. Martin was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lucas Bell was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Landon Houston, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Wayne Christian pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Liberty Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wayne Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Liberty Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Wayne Christian's way against Liberty Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Wayne Christian made off with a 24-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
