The Frankfort Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Lincoln Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Frankfort comes in on 26 and Lincoln on four.
Frankfort is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: University, who was ranked ninth at the time (Frankfort was ranked second). The Falcons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hawks on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since April 2nd.
Adison Pritts was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Lincoln got the win against Lewis County on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-3. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by nine runs or more this season.
Adriana Elder spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 12 hits.
At the plate, Lincoln got a massive performance out of Makiah Ford, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Ford a new career-high. Aspen Dyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Lincoln hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Frankfort pushed their record up to 26-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their record is now 15-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Frankfort hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Frankfort's way against Lincoln when the teams last played back in April, as Frankfort made off with a 9-3 victory. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
