The Hernando Tigers will square off against the George County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hernando 1.4, George County 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Hernando is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Northwest Rankin, who was ranked 13th at the time (Hernando was ranked first). The Tigers fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Hernando got a good showing from Olivia Skinner, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Skinner has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Katelyn Kirkpatrick was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, George County waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.
Not much got past Addison Davis, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep West Lauderdale off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blakley Slay, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Jordyn Bradley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
George County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Having lost for the first time this season, Hernando fell to 12-1. As for George County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
