Payson extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 12-13. They lost 13-7 to the Spanish Fork Dons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.
Ellie Prior was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Myra Andrew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Spanish Fork, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-7. The result was nothing new for the Dons, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
On Spanish Fork's side, Paizley Boman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Boman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Spanish Fork let Sydney Worthen and Lia Higginson run wild. Worthen fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5, while Higginson went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave Worthen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Baylee Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Payson will challenge Salem Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Skyhawks have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season. As for Spanish Fork, they will square off against Timpview at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunderbirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.56 runs per game on average), something the Dons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
