Dayton hasn't had much luck against Lowry recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dust Devils will take on the Buckaroos at 3:00 p.m. Dayton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Churchill County hit Dayton with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Dust Devils lost 10-0 to the Greenwave. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Dust Devils were not able to get on the board.
Dayton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LaSade Conti, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Alisi Tulimafua-Curran was another, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lowry came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Railroaders get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. Considering the Buckaroos have won 12 games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Maite Bengochea made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Nya Martinez was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Aliyah Carl also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Lowry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matchups.
Dayton's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Lowry, their record is now 15-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dayton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .453. However, it's not like Lowry struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dayton couldn't quite get it done against Lowry in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 6-2. Can the Dust Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
