The Coral Reef Barracudas will head out on the road to face off against the Carol City Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carol City took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Coral Reef, who comes in off a win.
Coral Reef had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Sunset as Coral Reef made off with a 26-0 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Coral Reef just coasted through the last quarter.
Coral Reef can attribute much of their success to Deon Libby, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Libby was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Coral Reef also got a significant boost from Izaiah Roque, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 101 yards.
Coral Reef's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Andres Quiroz and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Carol City took a serious blow against North Miami Beach on Saturday, falling 49-7. While losing is never fun, Carol City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 296th, while North Miami Beach is ranked 120th).
Coral Reef is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Carol City, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
