Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Tularosa, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Dexter with a sharp 16-2 victory on Tuesday.
Daniel Yuzos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Tularosa's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Sewell, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Cameron Holguin was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Tularosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Tularosa's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Texico, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
Tularosa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Texico hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. It's a different story for Tularosa, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Texico's hitters?
Everything went Texico's way against Tularosa when the teams last played back in March of 2023, as Texico made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
