Millville had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-16 to make it ten. They lost 18-0 to the Bucktail Bucks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Quakers of the 12-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.
Caitlyn Ludwig made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Riera-Gomez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
As for Bucktail, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games.
On Bucktail's side, Carrie Ditty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ditty was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Eva Sockman and Lola English did most of the damage at the plate: Sockman went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while English went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four hits gave English a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Stone, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Millville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 22-7 defeat against Lewisburg on the 12th. As for Bucktail, they will head out to face off against Cameron County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bucks are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
