The Lincoln Lions will take on the East Greenwich Avengers at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Lincoln's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Woonsocket with a sharp 15-0 victory. The Lions have beaten the Villa Novans the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Villa Novans has come to flipping the script.
London Rapko looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Brooke Tillson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those hits were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lucia Whyte, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI.
Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, East Greenwich entered their tilt with Narragansett on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Mariners. Considering the Avengers have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
East Greenwich let Chloe Hartman and Olivia DeShazo run wild. Hartman scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while DeShazo scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave Hartman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Fairbanks, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
East Greenwich pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .427. However, it's not like East Greenwich struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lincoln might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from East Greenwich in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
