It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Magnolia Bulldogs had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Sterling at home to the tune of 56-6. The win was familiar territory for Magnolia who now have eight in a row.
Magnolia had a senior duo take command as Hunter Andrews rushed for 74 yards and three touchdowns and Tanner Whittington threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes. Andrews has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played.
Magnolia has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Fort Bend Kempner and 1-9 Foster (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 28.7% over those games). As for Sterling, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.
Magnolia will head out on the road to face off against College Station at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. College Station is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Sterling does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
