Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Patrick Duchien of
Florence-Carlton (Florence) is the 2022 MaxPreps Montana High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior quarterback/safety helped the Falcons go 11-2 and win the Class B state championship for a second consecutive season.
Duchien combined to pass and run for more than 4,000 yards and 56 touchdowns this fall. He scored at least four touchdowns in all but one game and accounted for 10 scores in his final two playoff games.
In the state championship game against Loyola-Sacred Heart (Missoula), Duchien threw five touchdown passes and rushed for another as the Falcons defended their title with a 48-7 victory.
Duchien committed to FCS powerhouse Montana State earlier this week.
In his career the three-sport athlete had 99 touchdown passes, 37 rushing touchdowns and more than 10,000 total yards while holding a 4.0 grade point average.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
