The Gila Bend Gila Monsters will take on the Wickenburg Christian Academy Lion at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Gila Bend is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.8 runs per game this season.
Gila Bend had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but A+ Charter School put an end to it on Thursday. The Gila Monsters lost 13-2 to the Maricopa. The Gila Monsters' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Gila Bend saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Crash Davis, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wickenburg Christian Academy strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Holy Family Academy 11-5. The 11-run effort marked the Lion's lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Wickenburg Christian Academy got a big performance out of Ross Egan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Aziel Flores, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Wickenburg Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Wickenburg Christian Academy's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Gila Bend, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gila Bend has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wickenburg Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
