The Skyline Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Erie Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
On Wednesday, Skyline came up short against Monarch and fell 6-1.
Skyline saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Knapp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Matt Lanier was another, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Erie faced Legacy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers blew past the Lightning 14-3. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Maddox Burnett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Burnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Erie got a massive performance out of Austin Muir, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most hits Muir has posted since back in March. Josiah Hussey also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Erie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Erie is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Skyline, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Skyline has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Skyline might still be hurting after the 20-8 defeat they got from Erie when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
