Make it ten blowout wins for the Lafayette Christian Cougars this season. Everything went their way against Flint River Academy on Tuesday as Lafayette Christian made off with a 84-58 victory. With Lafayette Christian ahead 49-29 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Lafayette Christian had a senior duo take command as Bruno Tellez almost dropped a double-double on 40 points and nine rebounds and Joshua Zapata scored 27 points along with five steals. Tellez hasn't dropped below 16 points for 15 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Vakiel Hammett, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Despite the loss, Flint River Academy still got an impressive performance from Cale Cartwright, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Bode Chaney was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Lafayette Christian pushed their record up to 13-6 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.7 points per game. As for Flint River Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Lafayette Christian will be playing at home against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Praise Academy is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. Flint River Academy is on the road again on Thursday and plays the Irish Wolfhounds at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Notre Dame Academy is ranked 532nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 555th).
