The Amplus Academy Archers will head out on the road to face off against the Cheyenne Desert Shields at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Amplus Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
On Wednesday, Amplus Academy was beaten by the Lions 61-4. While losing is never fun, Amplus Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Lions are ranked 34th).
Amplus Academy got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Naomi Jacob and
Talaya Allen, who each put up two points.
Naia Youngblood held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne came into Wednesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 41-32 win over Bonanza on Wednesday. The win was just what Cheyenne needed coming off of a 79-22 loss in their prior match.
Amplus Academy dropped their record down to 0-14 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.9 points per game. As for Cheyenne, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
Amplus Academy was dealt a bruising 45-10 defeat at the hands of the Desert Shields in their previous matchup back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Amplus Academy was down 31-6.
