The Catawba Ridge Copperheads had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.6 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They strolled past South Pointe with points to spare, taking the game 60-45. Given Catawba Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while South Pointe is ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Lance Barnes, who scored 34 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Zyan Hager was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six steals and five assists.
South Pointe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Treven Raymon, who scored 14 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Ry'Darius Hill, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Catawba Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. As for South Pointe, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catawba Ridge will take on York at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Catawba Ridge's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while York has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for South Pointe, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lancaster at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. Lancaster is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.
