The Niceville Eagles will head out to square off against the Chiles Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Niceville's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Chiles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Wednesday, Niceville beat Florida State University High School 9-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Yahir Burgos made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Marquardt, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Remington Crum was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Chiles earned a 5-1 win over McMinn County on Tuesday.
Colton Corder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Chiles' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Tyler Correa was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. He has become a key player for Chiles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Preston Ritchie also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Niceville's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chiles, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Niceville might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Chiles in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can Niceville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
