Marion came out on top against Woodland on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Swamp Foxes put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Swamp Foxes have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kynnedi Jenkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Maliyah Williams was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sheteira Bethea, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Marion was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodland only posted a batting average of .133.
Marion has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Woodland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.
Looking ahead, Marion will head out to face off against Buford at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
