Softball Recap: Porterville's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Porterville dropped their record down to 9-14 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 11-1 to the Monache Marauders. The Panthers were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Marauders' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Monache, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

For Monache's part, Shy-Lee Teran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. Teran has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aalyha Mendoza, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Devynn Emerson, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Porterville is set to take on their familiar foe Redwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Monache will face off against rival El Diamante at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
