The biggest upset of the week belonged to St. Helens, who defeated 101st ranked St. Helens, 34-33.
Wilsonville's Derek Sunkle rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Northwest Oregon this season in his game against Parkrose last week. Sunkle scampered for 84 yards on the play and finished with 250 on the day as his team bested the Broncos.
Sunkle was a passing and rushing force as Wilsonville bested Parkrose. Sunkle's key target this week was Steven Sawyer, who caught 2 passes for 43 yards.
Sunkle was the best running back in the league this week. Collin Etcheberry also contributed to the rushing game with 138 yards on the ground.
Gage Bumgardner put up the best numbers in passing as the Lions lost to Liberty. He finished with 12 completions for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bumgardner's favorite target this week was Bryce Bumgardner, who caught 3 passes for 41 yards.
Harley Peters was a key player and the best on defense this week as Sherwood topped Hermiston. The 6-foot-2 senior.
Sawyer was the best receiver in the league this week as Adam Guenther's team bested Mo France's team.
Sunkle was a beast in the backfield as the Wildcats defeated the Broncos.
Leading 5A Northwest Oregon in both passing and receiving yards, St. Helens' Bumgardner and Justin Helgerson have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Bumgardner has thrown for 377 yards this season, while Helgerson has 9 catches for 107 yards. Sunkle from Wilsonville leads the league in rushing with 586 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Parkrose takes on Sandy. At the moment, the Broncos are in fourth, while the Pioneers are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bowmen and Jared Phillips' team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Sherwood comes in having scored 179 this season, while the Lions have scored 96. Greg Lawrence's team scored 63 points last week as it topped the Bulldogs.
The Wildcats were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Parkrose. Wilsonville came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
