The Ashley Screaming Eagle's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Clayton on the road by a decisive 61-43 margin. While losing is never fun, Ashley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while Clayton is ranked 74th).
Quinn Bentley and Coen Locklear certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Bentley scored 17 points, while Locklear scored 14 points. The matchup was Locklear's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Ashley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Clayton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashley and Croatan will face off at 8:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Croatan is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Clayton and Garner will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
