Churchill County extended their winning streak to four on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 17-6-1 in the process. They put the hurt on the Lowry Buckaroos with a sharp 14-3 win. Surprisingly, this marked the Greenwave's third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Churchill County got a great performance from Luis Lopez-Pinuelas as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Lopez-Pinuelas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Evan Giovanetti was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chase Carnahan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Churchill County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Lowry, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-10 Spring Creek and 12-10 Spring Creek (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.2% over those games).
On Lowry's side, Erick Valencia was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. The Buckaroos are 6-3 when Valencia posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise.
Looking ahead, Churchill County will square off against Spring Creek at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Spartans have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Lowry, they will take on Dayton at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dust Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.68 runs per game on average), something the Buckaroos will no doubt try to take advantage of.
