3A Western Slope recap Oct. 9, 2012
Rifle extended the longest winning streak in 3A Western Slope this week by beating Palisade, 31-3. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Steamboat Springs took down Battle Mountain 43-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Delta's dynamic duo of Mitch Whiteside and Chris Black proved tough for Montezuma-Cortez to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Whiteside threw for 193 yards and one touchdown and Black had 138 yards receiving. Douglas Hawkins helped Delta's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Ryan Moeller was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 251 yards on 22 carries as Rifle topped the Panthers. Isaac Rider also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.
Delta's Whiteside and Black have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Whiteside has thrown for 1012 yards this season, while Black, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 28 catches for 551 yards. Damon Wells' team's Moeller leads the league in rushing yards with 1558.
A big matchup in 3A Western Slope this week will be when the Sailors take on the Bulldogs. At the moment, Steamboat Springs is in fifth, while Palisade is in second.
Moffat County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,871 from 8,128. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 33-0 victory over Summit last week.
