The Summit Tigers waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 45-44 victory over Moffat County. For Summit, this counts as revenge for the 62-49 defeat Moffat County walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Summit can attribute much of their success to Kayla Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Eytel, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Moffat County still got an impressive performance from Mena Tucker, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals. Tucker continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Katie Jo Knez, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Moffat County were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit only racked up eight assists.
Summit's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Moffat County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Steamboat Springs at 12:30 p.m. on January 20th. Moffat County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Delta at 12:30 p.m. on January 20th. Delta will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
