2A Region 6 recap October 8, 2013
St. Joseph Catholic extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 6 this week by beating Marshall, 40-6. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Leake County led the league in scoring this week by notching 54 points on Williams Sullivan.
Aidan Bradford was the best wideout in the league this week as Pisgah lost to Puckett. Bradford tallied 3 receptions for 149 yards. Branden Pete helped Pisgah's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 50 yards.
Leading 2A Region 6 in both passing and receiving yards, St. Joseph Catholic's Chris Hanneke and Khari Harrison have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Hanneke has thrown for 880 yards this season, while Harrison has 19 catches for 480 yards. Austin Fletcher from the Wolves leads the league in rushing with 625 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Leake County takes on second place St. Joseph Catholic. Last week, the Gators defeated the Yellowjackets, while Flip Godfrey's team bested the Tigers.
The Bruins' offense has scored 189 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Leake County has allowed only 62 on the year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when St. Joseph Catholic and Gerry Anderson's team face off next week.
Puckett made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,826 from 9,124. The improvement was largely due to a 36-23 victory over the Dragons last week.
