The Erwin Warriors will face off against the Madison Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Erwin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Erwin and A.C. Reynolds had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Warriors fell 9-5 to the Rockets on Tuesday. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Rockets since Tuesday.
Cambrie Stevens and Macy Campbell did some serious damage despite the final result: Stevens earned one RBI, two runs, and four stolen bases, while Campbell went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Madison had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bearcats a 15-0 shutout. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Rylee Plemmons made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Peek, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Layla Rhinehart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Madison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Madison now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Erwin, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Everything went Erwin's way against Madison in their previous meeting on March 5th, as Erwin made off with a 13-7 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
