SouthWest Edgecombe is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Manteo is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cougars will host the Redskins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (SouthWest Edgecombe 3.6, Manteo 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
SouthWest Edgecombe proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Ayden - Grifton 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Chargers since April 12, 2022.
Mackenzie Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mackenzie Moore was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Alana Carroll was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Manteo won against Cape Hatteras on Thursday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Redskins never let Pasquotank County get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 11 runs or more this season.
Calleigh Bush made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Bush was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Bella Huntingford was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Bailey Dickerson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Manteo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Manteo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. SouthWest Edgecombe hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. However, it's not like Manteo struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
