The Garden Grove Argonauts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 68-47 loss at the hands of Westminster. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Garden Grove in their matchups with Westminster: they've now lost four in a row.
Garden Grove's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Drue Anzai, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, and Evan Juarez who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Anzai pulled down eight or more rebounds. Ethan Juarez was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals.
Westminster got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Nguyen out in front who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Nguyen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Hoang, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Garden Grove bumped their record down to 8-16 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points per game. As for Westminster, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
Garden Grove will head out on the road to square off against Segerstrom at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westminster, they will be playing at home against Katella at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
