The Miami Vandals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 114-40 defeat at the hands of San Tan Charter. Miami has not had much luck with San Tan Charter recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Miami had strong showings from Deray Mathis, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Curiel Nick, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 45% of Miami's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Noah Combs was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
San Tan Charter was led to victory by Kylen Bonner and Peyton Lubash. Bonner dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Lubash went 7 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bonner has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kristo Jackson, who scored 19 points.
Miami has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for San Tan Charter, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Miami and Leading Edge Academy - GEC will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Leading Edge Academy - GEC has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 356 points over their last five matches. San Tan Charter won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Highland Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Highland Prep is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
