Leesburg extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 13-8 in the process. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Windermere Prep Lakers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 last Wednesday.
Rachel Chiles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Hailey Toothaker and Addison Hunter did some serious damage despite the final result: Toothaker got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, while Hunter went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Custer, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
As for Windermere Prep, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.
On Windermere Prep's side, Carsha Campbell and Vanessa Nawracaj made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Campbell didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Nawracaj tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Campbell has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Campbell went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Nawracaj went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Kylie Konstand and Cierra Walker did most of the damage at the plate: Konstand went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Walker went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Ella Goldberg was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Leesburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-2 victory against Real Life Christian Academy on the 22nd. As for Windermere Prep, they have also already played their next matchup, a 10-0 defeat against East River on the 23rd.
