The Columbus Titans were the 46-8 winner over the Burlington Wildcats when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Columbus suffered a tough 38-14 loss at the hands of Burlington on Friday. Columbus was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-0.
Despite the loss, Columbus saw an underclassman step up: Jayden Rodriguez gained 103 total yards and a touchdown.
Zane Hoback was a one-man wrecking crew for Burlington as he rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 63 receiving yards. Hoback was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Burlington also got a significant boost from Hunter Reiling, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 93 yards.
Columbus' defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Parsons and 8-1 Frontenac (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.2% over those games). As for Burlington, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Columbus does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Burlington will square off against Frontenac at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Frontenac is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
