The Walkertown Wolfpack will challenge the Southwest Guilford Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Walkertown has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Walkertown took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against North Surry, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Walkertown's pitcher stepped up to hand North Surry a 2-0 shutout on Monday.
Macy Miller made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over nine innings pitched. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-4.
Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aliviah Bateman, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwest Guilford). They were the clear victor by a 22-3 margin over Page on Tuesday. The Cowboys have beaten the Pirates the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pirates has come to flipping the script.
Like Walkertown, Southwest Guilford also got a great game from a two-way player: Caroline Christman. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Christman was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Makayla Stefanik was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Aniya Harris was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Southwest Guilford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Walkertown's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Southwest Guilford, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
