Softball Recap: New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Wins Going Away Against Nokomis

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Nokomis, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's match. The Vipers put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 12-6 victory on Wednesday. This was payback for the Vipers, who suffered a 5-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Addison Hopkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly got a massive performance out of Autumn Green, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one double. Green continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Holloway, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .442. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nokomis only posted a batting average of .269.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's win bumped their record up to 5-18. As for Nokomis, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly will square off against Greenfield/Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Vipers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Nokomis, they will host Meridian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Redskins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
