Northwest Cabarrus hasn't had much luck against Central Cabarrus recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Northwest Cabarrus will challenge Central Cabarrus at 5:30 p.m. Northwest Cabarrus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Northwest Cabarrus proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 16) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Lake Norman Charter 2-1. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Haylee Ellis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Northwest Cabarrus' victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Justyce Johnson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Central Cabarrus entered their tilt with Concord on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Spiders. Considering the Vikings have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Central Cabarrus also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Taryn Jenkins gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Central Cabarrus got a massive performance out of Kinley Hood, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Hood has posted since back in February. Cecilia Measmer was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Central Cabarrus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Northwest Cabarrus' record now sits at 6-3. As for Central Cabarrus, their record now sits at 8-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Northwest Cabarrus hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Central Cabarrus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Northwest Cabarrus came out on top in a nail-biter against Central Cabarrus in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northwest Cabarrus since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
