Even though the Erie Tigers have not done well against the Fossil Ridge Sabercats recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Erie came out on top in a nail-biter against Fossil Ridge and snuck past 46-43. Given Erie's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Fossil Ridge is ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maddie Hartel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds. The game was her fifth in a row with at least ten points. Tegan Cerveny was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Erie pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Fossil Ridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Erie will head out on the road to face off against Fort Collins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fort Collins focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. As for Fossil Ridge, they will be playing at home against Brighton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brighton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
