Video: Arch Manning highlights
Nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning looked even better.
Freshman
Arch Manning, the grandson of college Hall of Fame quarterback Archie and nephew of future NFL Hall of Famers Peyton and Eli Manning, continues to impress for
Newman (New Orleans, La.).
In fact, as good as he was in the team's opener, a 41-15 home win over Lusher on Sept. 6, the 6-foot-1, 165-pounder was even better in a 44-7 win at Bonnabel (Kenner) on Friday.
Manning showed some nifty foot work and accounted for five touchdowns. He threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns, all to
Jarmone Sutherland Jr. for 54, 21 and 24 yards. He also rushed for two scores.
In the opener, Manning completed his 7 of his first 8 passes and finished 22-of-34 for 224 yards and three touchdowns. He was the first freshman ever to start at quarterback at Newman, and that included his uncles.
Arch's father Cooper began the lineage at Newman, starring at wide receiver and earning a scholarship to the University of Mississippi, where Archie made his collegiate legend. Cooper caught passes from Peyton, who won multiple national Player of the Year honors at Newman. Then Eli came along and passed for 7,389 yards and 89 touchdowns for the Greenies.

Current Newman coach Nelson Stewart told
Nola.com that the Manning name, and all the pressures that come along with it, doesn't effect him and shouldn't influence Arch.
"The biggest thing for him is he's all about the first name, not the last," Stewart said. "It's ‘Arch' to me. I don't compare him to anyone else. He's his own entity. He's where he is because he's an individual that's ready to be a starting varsity quarterback."
It's helped that Arch attended Newman's K-12 school and starred on the middle school team as a sixth-grader.
The system to the varsity level all aligned, as too has Arch's talent and football IQ. He looked like the best quarterback for the job during spring practice and 7-on-7s and right up to his season opener.
""He's ready for this moment," Stewart said the season opener. "Most haven't been."
Manning is schedule to make his third start Friday when Newman (2-0) hosts East Jefferson (Metarie).
